Working on boats in Miami and Fort Lauderdale

If you are already in Florida you could go to Fort Lauderdale a few weeks before the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in the fall. You can probably get some day work there. If you already have experience, you could try registering with crew agencies. Fort Lauderdale has many yachting resources. See the yacht crewing jobs page for a list of crew agencies.

If you are farther up north on the east coast, try places like Newport, Rhode Island, or look around on the online crew lists.

Fort Lauderdale Miami boat work

May i intergect a comment here - First i think Billy is looking for job not offering a job.

Second Fort Lauderdale / Miami boat shows have been way way down the past several years as far as hiring and is not the place to be for most as jobs are extremely scarce in this area... though you may get lucky.

Last year over 50% of all Charters were down from previous years - Layoffs at all ship yards up full yard close downs took place in December and January.

The Boats are not vacationing here, chartering out of here or repairing here as they have in the past - they are going else where for many reasons.

The shows as far as daywork - good luck - most are hiriing small cleaning crews that don't pay squat.

Not to discurage people from trying - but to open ones eyes as what to expect if you head this way.

It is not at all what it was ten years ago let alone 6 years ago. This is not just an economic issue - as stated there are many reasons for this turn away from South Florida ports by the yachts.

Take it or leave it - be aware of it.

I want to go to sea!!!!!

Domestic diva, swim coach, all around awesome cook and event planner would love a casual working situation on a boat or small yacht. I need to be on the sea! My gills get dry when I am not! I will look after children (I am a retired teacher) and pets providing they know not to chew me to pieces! I am fit, fun and an adorable addition to any group. YES - it's true!
I live presently on the east coast of the US. You can pick me up! I am single without ties or time hassles. I love setting the mood, creating great occassions for your guests or for your family! Take me take me! I have just returned from 5 years in Africa and now have an entire new repetoire of cooking goodies to add to my already French/Cajun background! Really I am a find. Whether on a boat feeding the boys...or a sailboat with the fam I am your girl.
I am sooo waiting to hear from you!

Southampton-the Caribbean

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a yacht cruise from Southampton to the Caribbean/Bahamas or Cuba. I want to make it a one-way trip (just for a couple of days, then I'll probably come back by ship or whatever comes to my mind). I'm a hitchhiker ;) I can only go in Jan/Feb 2011. Anyone going the same direction? [I can even work for free - cleaning deck and stuff]

Re: boat jobs

Hello,

We are young couple from Portugal (30 - 27 yo), and we are doing a journey around north and central america.
At the moment we are in Todos Santos (Baja California Sur,MX) and during the next months we are planning to visit some countries from Central America, such as Belize, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
We are open to new plans to enrich our journey and the ideia of joining you on a sailing trip seems very exciting!
Specially because I have just completed my local skipper license and am looking forward to explore the sailing world.
Let us know if you are interested in our company, both to collaborate / work and to spend a pleasant time on board.
