I don't know a thing

dreambig24's picture

I met a girl in Germany that told me that she took a week long course, paid $2,000, and got her license or certification thereafter. Now she's working on some guy's boat and sailing happily around the lovely little globe of ours. So my questions are as follow:
1)Is there one standard certification that is accepted worldwide for sailing?
2)Does having the certificate actually help you get a job, or is it a waste of money?
3)Does it matter who I get my certificate from? I'm in the L.A. area if that matters at all.

Thanks to anyone who can inform me.

Peace,

Sergio

Certificates For Yachts Etc.

To answer your first question. Yes, there are certian
certifications you need in order, to work oboard a yacht/vessel. It all depends what you want. All yachts are requiring you must have your STCW 95. (This is called Basic Safety Training. One week course.) There are other courses you may take to
increase your chances in obtaining boat jobs. This is just the beginning. If you need any further assistance
with this I can direct you.
Knowing everything you can about line handling is a must as well!
